Companies are central to Data.com Connect and play an essential role in the quality of our contacts. In our September release we introduced company updates on Connect, with some limitations on the types of companies you could update and which fields were editable. As of our recent release this January, we’ve removed those limitations to allow all sorts of company updates from our community.
Let’s explore the new update options together.
Update company information
As of the January release, we’ve enabled edits for all the company fields: name, address, phone number, industry, revenue, employees, and ticker symbol. Particularly exciting is the addition of company HQ phone number and HQ location address.
To update a company, click the blue Update Company button at the bottom of the company summary page. You‘ll see an update page similar to the Add Company page. You can now edit the Location Info section to change the company phone and HQ address, as this example shows:
Keep in mind that if you change the company’s main phone number, any contacts that used the old main phone number will be updated to reflect the new phone number. However, if a contact has a direct dial phone number, the number remains unchanged.
Activate and Deactivate companies
Another major feature introduced with this release is the ability to deactivate and reactivate companies. This enables you to maintain accurate company information by discarding companies that are no longer in business. After you click Update Company on the company summary page, you’ll see the new Company Status section on the Update Company page:
Tip: Be careful when deactivating or activating a company--any changes to a company will propagate to all the contacts at that company. For example, if you mark a company as out of business, all the contacts at that company will become inactive.
It can take up to 24 hours for a company changes to reflect on the contacts., so you might notice that some contacts are temporarily still active after you deactivate a company.
Big company updates
Finally, you have the ability to update any company, regardless of its size. We removed the restrictions on company size, so you’ll be able to submit edits to larger, more complex companies. To ensure the highest data quality, those larger company edits will be reviewed by our Data Quality team for accuracy before you see the edits take effect on the website. To edit a large company, click on the Update Company button and then submit your change.
With each release we introduce new company features. However there is a lot more we want to offer so you can better manage, grow and enrich Data.com Connect company information.
