Lead singer of Soundgarden, Audioslave, and Temple of the Dog (brief band prior to Pearl Jam). Temple of the Dog was formed to record a tribute album to the late Andrew Wood, lead singer of Mother Love Bone. What is it about the Seattle music scene and lead singers dying too young? Andrew Wood, Layne Staley, Kurt Cobain, and now Chris Cornell. You can even go back even farther to Jimi Hendrix.
The first time I heard Soundgarden's Batmotorfinger album, I was at IU. There was a basketball goal outside our house. There were five of us living is this run-down house. Our roommate set up speakers on his window and blasted the CD while we played basketball. I was blown away then, and every time I listen to those songs, it takes me back to that sunny day playing bball. RIP Chris Cornell.
