Met an individual from Wells Fargo who gave me his business card.
I go to put him into Data.Com and he's in but listed as San Francisco (main) office. So, I update the phone number and Get ownership.
Well, if I get ownership, I would think I could up date the location of the individual.
I clicked to get all the details, so I could update them. Costs me 5 points. If I now have ownership, why?
I updated the location and got the 5 pts back.
There just seems something wrong with the way you have to go through it.
Am I doing something wrong or is there a better way of doing this?

@Kopfhunter, there are two kinds of ownership:

I don't think so.
When I updated the Title, the ownership at the bottom of the card went to my name. So, I have to believe that makes me the Royalty owner.
I'm not sure if changing the Title is a major or minor update. if the card now shows my ID as ownership, I have to believe it as a Major.
Under your explanation, it would say that if I am the Roalty owner, I also have contact ownership.
Now you say if you have contact ownership, you can export it indefinitely. Apparently this wasn't true because I got charged the 5 pts.
It's really not a big deal but it didn't work the way you explained it.

The username at the bottom of the card does not represent royalty ownership. It represents who made the latest update, regardless if it was a major or minor update. In order to see who the royalty owner is, select the history of updates for the contact. From there, you should see who has royalty ownership.

@Kopfhunter, once you 'own' a contact, below the contact card, if you click +BUSINESS CARD HISTORY, you can view all updates to the contact within 90 days (or all time if you select 'All Activity'). There is a column that says 'New Royalty Owner', it is there that you can see who is the royalty owner. As @Granbit correctly indicated, the user name in the lower right hand corner of the contact card is merely the person who last updated the contact.
The link below goes to the 'What do Ratings Mean' page, which can also be accessed by clicking your ratings percentage in the top right under MY ACCOUNT. If you look at the flow chart that shows how ratings are calculated, its says that Major Updates include updates to address, phone & email. Minor Updates include updates to name & title.
Also under MY ACCOUNT' you can select MY CONTACTS. Here you can see which contact you 'own' and which contacts you 'own' with royalty ownership. If you had to purchace the contact for -5 points, then you do not own the contact,
