Add a contact (not already in the database) = 5 points
You are now the royalty owner of that contact. When someone else needs that contact and buys it, you earn 1 royalty point.
Royalty points are added to your overal point total.
You use those points to buy other contacts.
You just joined the database. You add one contact: 5 points. Your point total is currently 5. You do nothing. However, over the course of one week, 10 other users buy your contact. Therefore, you gain 10 royalty points. Your current point total becomes 15. You can now buy 3 contacts just from loading your original contact.

@mainul142, in addition, if you add new contacts and include a direct dial, you will receive an extra +5 pts for a total of +10pts. You will also get an extra +5pts for a total of +10pts if you update a contact with a direct dial. Only wrinkle, is that you will only get +5pts (not +10) if there was a direct dial previously associated with the contact you update with a direct dial. Also, you can gain royalty ownership for a contact you update for a major update (ie email or phone). However, you do not get royalty ownership for minor updates (ie name, title, address).
Separately, there are quarterly contests. Sometimes, prizes in the quarterly contests include awarding of points to winners.
Many ways to earn points!
