If someone wants to try sales how do you respond to them?

I have a secretary who is interested in doing sales. I believe because he sees how easy and stress free I make it, he believes he can do it. He's only tried sales once and didn't do well selling cat litter.

I feel like telling him he will fail miserably but don't want to discourage him and his enthusiam.

I know this sounds like I'm writing a letter to Dear Abby for advice but it's a sincere question.

I had a similar situation a few years ago. I had someone working for me that wanted to try their hand at sales. I gave them a shot with some warm leads, and it didn't work out. I tried to help, but it became clear it wasn't a fit as everything they touched fell apart. I tried to steer them back to their normal job...but they didn't believe me and left for a sales job. No idea what/how they are doing now.
