For my high tech business I'm not limited by size general or geography or sector. And since I own the business there's no one that is off limits for me to call.
I try to stick to major cities. I used to go anywhere, but the services that I sell require on-site technicians from time to time, and it was getting very expensive to send technicians to every middle of nowhere in the US.
I used to try service and even placing engineers but decided like you it was too costly so I bailed on service and just now sell hardware.
