Linked in only allows you so many searches on the free account. Be sure and use Google to search the possible name you are looking for @ and the company name. It will likely pull up the Linked in account towards the top and you can go right to your contact without wasting pages of searches within Linked in looking for him. You can also use the advanced Linked in search but I find the Google search quicker and more effective.
Also if the end of the months is approaching and you want to search say a title or industry, etc in bulk, do it the last day of the month as it will reset on the first thereby allowing you to use it as you need to throughout the new month and also maximizing the amount of contacts you can get by using it to it's limit!

I am actually using it when searching for some job vacancy as I know for a fact that some of the biggest companies have their profile with LinkedIn. I will just simply look for some connection and then add them up.
